How many dance classes do you take?

Just wondering how many dance classes you are taking this year! I dance 23 hours a week. But that is only 17 actual classes, 6 of them are 2 hours long. I do jazz, lyrical, ballet, pointe, company/competitive, and hip hop. What about you guys?

Seriously, 23 hours!!!! I only do hip-hop basics class for an hour a week, and jazz basics class for an hour a week. So, 2 hours in total. Hopefully, I will be able to dance for 3 or 4 hours a week. I also do flute for a half hour a week, and horseback riding for a hour a week. I have school, and bed too. My schedule is packed as it is, so 2 hours of dance is enough in my schedule. If I can bump dance an hour or 2, it won’t be too much hopefully!!! Hope I Helped……:)

What are some tips for doing better in dance classes?

I am really bored right now so I was wondering what do you think is very important to do in dance classes? What do you think every dancer should be able to do? I’m really focusing on ballet and modern. So what do you think are good things for a dancer to know? Thanks and please no rude answers

Well I believe every dancer should know how and when to listen, even if the teacher is giving corrections to another dancer, you should always listen and grasp on to what they have to say… Soak every bit of knowledge up.

Also just push yourself, push yourself for that extra turn in your pirouette… and keep positive thoughts, b/c you will never pull off a triple if you go into it thinking you cant do it.

Another thing is, keep your movement alive, even if it is the simplest, if you feel alive your movement will look and feel much more passionate.

One more thing I think is good, is to know how to pick up choreography quick, well I know I have trouble with this, so i am always trying to find ways to try and improve this skill.

I hope I have helped, these are just some things I think every dancer should be able to do, to be able to grow…

Why men gets frustated when they cannot dance in a dancing class?

I’ve met more than one guy that gets so frustraded when they cannot follow the steps in a dancing class. This is a big turn off for me because it shows that a guy cannot be patient enough to learn and give up as a failure. Why is so difficult to find men that love to dance?

They are frustrating because their dancing skills are a reflection of their performance in bed.

You can just go to festivals wherever there’s a Gujarati community, there’ll be garba going on, and pick it up from them Maybe ask around there too, they’re the best place to get started, to be honest xox

Why do girls still take dance classes when they are like in their teens?

I live in the south, an area chalk full of tradition. It seems like if you are a girl at my school, you just are not cool unless you take dance. I admit I took some classes from 3 years old to about 10 years old, but I am almost 18 now! I GREW UP! There are girls at my school who still compete in competitions with little tutus and freakish looking recital costumes. If it is something you like to do I understand, but why do girls consider dancing such an essential way of life down here? It is so ridiculous.

Because they love it. Not all dance classes have to consist of prissy little tutus, they might want to become professionals. It doesn’t matter how old you are; if you love dance, you should take it. My friend is 16, and she dances 30 hours per week at a ballet academy. She is absolutely incredible, and every day she works SO hard. Dancing might not be your thing, but you shouldn’t say that it’s "ridiculous" just because you don’t agree with it. Also, it’s no one else’s problem on here if the you have to take dance to be cool where you live.

What should I wear to my hip hop dance class?

Tonight is my first hip hop dance class. I have no clue what to wear. I’ve been dancing for a long time, but never in this style. I do have a lot of dance clothing, but don’t know the appropriate attire for hip hop. Please answer with any suggestions you have for what I should wear! Thank you (:

These answers are WRONG.
•NEVER wear jeans to ANY dance class. They will kick you out. For real!
•Leggings and sequins and sparkles are a no-no. Nobody will stop you, but you will look weird (in a bad way) wearing sparkles and sequins; and leggings aren’t loose enough.
•Tight clothes aren’t a good idea either. Your top can be tight but your bottoms shouldn’t.
I suggest you wear a tee (loose or tight, doesn’t matter) or a wifebeater for the top. Bottoms: basketball shorts, sweats, or long cotton pants. Nothing short, but nothing too baggy either; and especially no tight bottoms! Shoes: tennis shoes or skater shoes (you know, Vans, Nike, Converse, etc.). NOT your street shoes. You can also wear a hat if you want, but some places don’t allow them. Also, it’s a good idea to put your hair up and bring an iced/cold water bottle because no matter what level you are in in hip hop dance, you’re gonna sweat like hell, and putting your hair in a ponytail is only gonna help you see better when you’re dancing (if you’re in beginning, don’t worry about putting your hair up. The higher level you’re going in, the better off you are with your hair up in a ponytail or whatever). The water bottle will help you chill. Also, bring an extra change of clothes–trust me, I made that mistake once.
That person who said to dress hip hop-like is WAY off. Just because some hip hop dancers wear baggy jeans, caps, and loose tees doesn’t mean that’s what you wear to practice. And, just to remind you again, JEANS IN ANY DANCE CLASS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED BY RULES/GUIDELINES OF DANCE STUDIOS–ANYWHERE!
Anyway, usually dance studios have rules and guidelines on what to wear; you should visit their website or give them a call or visit.

What are some benchmarks for dance classes?

I’m trying to find some benchmarks for my preschool dance classes. Tap, ballet and tumbling.

Any suggestions? I have some but I’m curious in others’ input.

If they are preschool and under 6 years of age, there is not all that much you can do with them. Physically their bodies are not really ready for real ballet. That is why they put kids that age in pre-ballet. You can teach the 5 positions, but don’t expect them to do it with correct turnout. Actually, you should not have them do 5th position. Just 1st through 4th. They could damage their knees if they attempt 5th without proper turnout.
I would just keep it simple and let them express themselves moving to the music. Nothing structured at all. For tap the simplest basics like shuffle hop step down on both feet. Tumbling, just somersaults.

@Chloe- did you misread this? These are Preschool age kids. (You should really learn how to spell ballet terms. Some of those are not even close.)

I really want to start a contemporay dance class?

I am a 15 year old and I want to start contemporay. I have been an Irish dancer for 12 years and I also was on my schools poms/dance team last year. So I know how to do leaps and turns, but would I be able to start a class and not look at least totally foolish. Thanks.

Like you, I am 15 years old, have danced on my high school’s dance team, and have background experience in dance. I think it would be great for you to start a contemporary dance class!! Contemporary is a growing style in the dance world, and very beautiful in so many ways because there are so many ways you can go about it. It is truly an extraordinary experience, and I hope you give it a try! If you have dance background, I think you will be great!

What are the best dance classes to take if one wants to learn how to dance like most pop acts on mtv and entertainers, in the style of britney, pussy cat dolls, current pop stars and pop groups? Hip hop? Anything else? Just to get the knack of moving and learning choreography…

I would say you should focus on jazz and hip hop. That "pop" type of dance would fall somewhere in between those types of dancing. You could also call around to some local studios and see what they would suggest for that type of dancing. Some may say you should take a modern or contemporary type of class. This may help, but you should focus on jazz and hip hop. Good luck!
