So I’m taking this first dance class entitled "modern dance," and on the first day others were wearing some variation of some kind of stretchy shorts or pants. Where could I find these?

Bike shorts and a tee shirt. Or jazz pants (I like short ones to the knee.) Too long and they will get in your way. I get mine at a dance supply store. You can also find them online. Just google men’s dancewear.

I’ve wanted to take a dance class forever, but I just haven’t had the time. But I finally do now!
My only problem is that I have one bad ankle (I sprained it really badly once, it’s usually okay most of the time, but sometimes I have to wrap it because it sprains easily)
so I can’t take a really, really intense dance class.
I was thinking about getting into jazz maybe?
I really like flow-y, graceful and smooth styles of dance.
What would you suggest?

My advice is that if you’re ankle sprains easily, DON’T do jazz. Jazz is fast and sharp, and if your ankle can’t stand much, then you probably don’t want to take the risk. If you like smooth and flowy, you might want to try a lyrical class. It’s graceful and smooth, and you don’t have as much chance of hurting your ankle. You could also try a beginning ballet class. Just tell the teacher about your situation, and ask her to inform you if something might hurt your ankle. Just don’t take a pointe class, because for pointe you need VERY strong ankles. Whatever class you decide on, take it slow and easy, and ALWAYS let the teacher know if anything is painful or you feel like you may be injured. Don’t try to tough it out, because it may result in serious and permanent injury. Lyrical is probably what you would most enjoy, but I strongly suggest taking a ballet class additionally.

I have no idea how to dress for my beginner’s swing dance class today. I don’t have any swing dance-looking clothes (and it would be laughable now, as it is a beginner’s class). I don’t have the right shoes, either…would jeans and converse shoes be okay for today? What do you think? I’m a college student.

Many beginner and more advance swing dancers dress for comfort. Sneakers are worn with jeans or (as you did not mention if you a re nale or female) pants, skirt etc. . If you were going to a more formal venue or just wanted to start dressing up more you should build on you own style. Old pictures are a great but you can also check out site that deal with swing cloths. A hint that can help. If the floor is sticky many of my friends put duct tape on the sneaker soles to help slide a bit. Hope this helps……… Keep dancing. It will get in your blood. .
