What are the best dance classes to take if one wants to learn how to dance like most pop acts on mtv and entertainers, in the style of britney, pussy cat dolls, current pop stars and pop groups? Hip hop? Anything else? Just to get the knack of moving and learning choreography…
I would say you should focus on jazz and hip hop. That "pop" type of dance would fall somewhere in between those types of dancing. You could also call around to some local studios and see what they would suggest for that type of dancing. Some may say you should take a modern or contemporary type of class. This may help, but you should focus on jazz and hip hop. Good luck!

My Daughter is 5 & has just started modern dance class. What kind of shoes would be best for her to wear?
Modern is danced barefoot. However, in some schools the dancers wear foot undies or dance paws.
I just realized you said your daughter is 5. Did you mean 15?
5 is way way too young for modern dance. 5 is pre- ballet age. True ballet training doesn’t start until age 7.
Most dancers start modern technique after years of ballet training. You cannot teach a 5 year old Graham, Horton or Limon techniques. If she really is 5, then she isn’t being taught modern. They are just calling the class that and it is just moving to music not modern technique.
Okay, so today is my first dance class and I have a few questions.
1) What do you usually wear to dance class (I’m in ballet and jazz)?
2) Should I bring anything to class? If so, what?
What else should I know about dance class?
Thanks for the info!
1) for ballet:
-pink ballet tights with conversion soles (this means its a full foot but it has a hole in the bottom so you can pull your tights up if your teacher needs to see your feet)
- solid colored leotard (depending on your studios dress code, some require all black, some have no rules)
- pink ballet shoes (full sole if you have weak feet, split sole if not- you can decide when you’re a teenager)
- hair pulled back into a neat ballet bun (meaning hairnet and pins, etc.)

for jazz:
- leggings/tights/spandex shorts (you can wear leggings or tights under shorts or just shorts, depending on dress code and personal preference)
- leotard/athletic top (leotards are better in my opinion)
- jazz shoes/foot undeez/socks (so here it really depends on your studio, but my personal preference is socks or barefeet. foot undeez are really bad for your feet, but they are popular at many dance studios)
- hair pulled back (doesn’t have to be a ballet bun, but needs to be clean and not fall out)
2) bring to class:
- dance bag with: water bottle, maybe a snack if you think you need it, your street clothes for before and after, i always like to have an extra pair of socks)
* thats all that’s necessary, but you can add other things that you might want
oh and make sure you don’t have any necklaces, bracelets, dangly earrings (small studs only),etc. and just try your hardest and respect and listen to the teacher and you’ll do great. remember, the thing teachers hate most is when people don’t listen to them and think they know better.

What is it like to be in a dance studio/class?

So I’m 14 at the moment, currently in grade 9 ( exams! D: )
I’m a shy type of person who can’t dance at all.
Anyways, I want to learn break dancing, and I’ve already found two possible studios.
So here are my questions:
What is it like to be in a dance class? Since I’m gunna learn to break dance, would there be more male dancers than girls? ’cause I’ve never really seen or heard of b-girls before..
Also, do I have to be super fit and muscular to break dance?
There’s typically alot more girls in all kinds of dance classes, breakdancing is no differet. But i’m sure there will be a few boys in the class. No you don’t have to be super fit, especially in a beginners class, you work on that in class. But getting some upper body strength would be very helpful. Since it is breakdancing, you will probably be put on the spot alot in front of the class. That might be hard for you since you are shy, but you’ll get better and more confident. At least try the class, you might love it!

I was watching a video of a dance in the Dance Sparks Debate, and I wondered " Wow! Where do you learn those dance moves?" So I must know how to get in a class like those little 7-8 year olds. Please comment as soon as you can!
Go to Off Broadway Z company….Well actually it depends on where you live. Being a dancer just doesn’t mean taking classes it means to try hard….So first you try and teach your self. Start out with reliveys and plies, then work on your balance. Try a single turn point your foot while bringing your right leg up to your right knee. To start a turn prep in 4th or 5th position. Know that you know basics start out with ballet. Go into a jazz group. Then start contemporary lyrical. I am a dancer and we bleed pride we worship our strength and hope one day to be a professional. Tip- Don’t dance for trophy’s or awards dance to have fun!
Hope this helps!
